New focus for DeviceNet fieldbus users
The DeviceLogix node (integrating 72 function blocks) programmable with RSNetworx, the Rockwell Automation* sofware allows DeviceNet PLC(s) to be programmed and control a sequence of operations.
Principle
The pneumatic island controls a sub-assembly of a complete installation using DeviceNet communication protocol. The DeviceLogix (module or node) can be used in a standalone application without a network connection to sequence pneumatic valves (and control I/O).
The aim of DeviceLogix is to:
- free the PLC from simple operation sequences in order to control them at a lower cost.
DeviceLogix decreases the operating time of the PLC communication card. This light PLC configuration is dedicated to the island control and to more complex sequences
or
- execute sequences independently from the PLC.
A simple solution, independent and easy to install
Each island has an integrated intelligence
Three possible uses:
- As independant equipment: without any PLC, the island manages the integrated intelligence to control the actuator piloting and the feedback sensor.
- As a DeviceNet slave (with programmed sequence): an integrated sequence is activated thanks to a PLC variable which generates the pre-programmed cycle in the island. This integrated sequence is activated thanks to a PLC variable which starts the pre-programmed cycle in the island. This sequence can be achieved without delaying the PLC operating time.
- As a DeviceNet slave (without programmed sequence: the island behaves as a simple equipment which is DeviceNet compatible.
With the DeviceLogix, the user can easily "drag and drop" all the logic funtion blocks (AND, OR, timer, counter …) to obtain the required sequences up to 72 functionnal blocks. This solution enables installations to be replaced and to save money regarding previous installations controlled by a pneumatic logic
Each island displays a visual diagnostic thanks to Leds (network status, fuse integrity) and presents a software diagnostic function (detection bit for coil or input short circuits, as well as temperature rise or overvoltage of coils).
Moreover, in case of short circuit, the default way (sensor input or coil output) is de-energized without modifying the operation of others island I/O nor the network communication. When the default is deleted, the way is being re-energized by itself and keeps on functionning in a usual way.
Time and money saved
Each island is delivered mounted and its RSNetWorx software programmation is universal (compatible) regarding function blocks or Ladder.
Some features
- Installation cost is reduced and simple PLC implementation is available
- The network traffic is lowered
- Optimisation of the PLC cycles time
- Easiness and efficiency of automation: pneumatic spool valves and I/O integrated to an offset intelligence.
Documentation
* DeviceLogix definition by Rockwell Automation : the DeviceLogix technology increases the system's performances by adding an intelligent control next to the machine, which reduces response times and increase the network performances. Added to a higher local treatment power, update and operating times of the main PLC can be reduced. In case of network default, the operation is resumed by the local device, which reduces the impact on manufacturing.
